Job Description:
Responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in day to day work routine for self and others. Reporting to the Building and Grounds Supervisors, perform daily operation and maintenance functions (heating, cooling, ventilation, electrical, plumbing, etc.) for the various building facilities and systems, and grounds for MDU Resources Group, Inc. in order to provide a safe and comfortable working environment for all employees. Assist or coordinate with repairs to the mechanical equipment. May coordinate the purchase of replacement parts and maintain inventory.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Building Maintenance Assistant I:
• High school equivalency; and
• Two years’ experience working on HVAC equipment or completion of a HVAC technical training course.
• Possession of a refrigerant handling certification for commercial equipment is preferred.
• Associates degree in applied science with emphasis on heating and air conditioning (HVAC) is preferred.

Building Maintenance Assistant II:
• High school equivalency; and
• Four years’ experience working on HVAC equipment or completion of a HVAC technical training course; and
• Possession of a refrigerant handling certification for commercial equipment.
• Associates degree in applied science with emphasis on heating and air conditioning (HVAC) is preferred.
Key Skills & Competencies
Building Maintenance Assistant I:
• Knowledge of heating, cooling, ventilation, electrical and plumbing, all phases of boiler operations, and experience with commercial air conditioning units.
• Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to prioritize and be able to direct others (contractors and vendors) when required.
• Troubleshooting, mechanical, and equipment operation skills.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Suite applications
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills when working with internal and external customers.

Building Maintenance Assistant II:
• Working knowledge of heating, cooling, ventilation, electrical and plumbing, all phases of boiler operations, and experience with commercial air conditioning units and basic knowledge of building automation systems.
• Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to prioritize and be able to prioritize and be able to direct others (contractors and vendors) when required.
• Strong troubleshooting, mechanical, and equipment operation skills.
• Ability to diagnose equipment problems and make proper repairs
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite applications
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills when working with internal and external customers.
Other Requirements
• Required to maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Due to the need for unescorted access to security sensitive business locations and/or systems, must submit to periodic background checks.
