Conduct criminal prosecution and civil lawsuits, and present evidence in court.
Evaluate evidence in civil, criminal, and other cases to determine appropriate legal action.
Advise law enforcement officers on laws and procedures, prepare and present search warrants, and hold probable cause hearings on weekends; Review police reports for prosecution.
Prepare legal opinions, conduct legal research, draft legal documents regarding assigned caseload, maintain ongoing written narrative in files or on computer, and appear in court as required.
Advise elected and appointed officials and County employees as to their legal rights and represent agencies in court and before quasi-judicial or administrative agencies of government.
Maintain and establish working relationships with regional judiciary, and a close liaison with county officials, particularly state’s attorneys, judges, and other attorneys.
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in the State of North Dakota.
Must have two or more years of experience as an attorney practicing criminal law.
If no candidates meet the above requirements this position may be under filled with an Assistant State's Attorney I.
Minimum Requirements are the same EXCEPT No years of experience are required.
